What level should I register for?

Beginner 1 (NTRP 1.0-1.5): New to tennis or minimal experience. 
Beginner 2 (NTRP 1.5-2.0): Completed intro class or some basic experience. 
Pre-Intermediate (NTRP 2.0-2.5): Plays recreationally, can rally but wants more consistency. 
Intermediate 1 (NTRP 2.5-3.0): Consistent strokes, wants advanced techniques. 
Intermediate 2 (NTRP 3.0-3.5): Can rally and serve reliably, focusing on strategy and competitive play. 
Advanced (NTRP 4.0+): Experienced with directional control, focusing on point construction and mental toughness.

What is the size of each class?

We maintain a maximum 4:1 player-to-coach and player-to-court ratio for most classes (following Tennis BC and Tennis Canada's best practices). Maintaining small groups ensures every player receives personalized feedback and sufficient attention.

Where are lessons held?

In the summer, we offer programs at various outdoor tennis courts across Vancouver. In the winter, we move to specific indoor facilities, such as the Vancouver International Tennis Academy in Richmond. We insist on using dedicated tennis courts rather than gymnasiums to maintain high program quality.

Do I need my own racquet?

Not for beginners! We have loaner racquets available if you request one in advance, though we recommend purchasing a basic racquet as you progress.

What if I miss a class due to a schedule conflict?

All of our classes are fully booked and makeup sessions cannot be guaranteed. However, we provide access to dedicated community groups for each skill level. Within these groups, students can coordinate with one another to swap spots for the week if their schedules conflict, allowing you to attend a different session of the same level.

What is your cancellation and refund policy for Group Programs?

Our refund policy is based on the program venue. For outdoor courts and community centres, you are eligible for a full refund if you provide written notice more than 48 hours before the first session. If notice is provided more than 48 hours before the second session, you are eligible for a pro-rated refund. No refunds or credits are issued if notice is provided less than 48 hours before the second session.

For programs at private facilities (such as the Vancouver International Tennis Academy), cancellations made with more than 72 hours notice before the first session are eligible for a refund, less a 10% administrative fee to cover non-refundable platform costs. No refunds or credits are issued for cancellations with less than 72 hours notice or after the program has officially started.

What is your cancellation and refund policy for Private Lessons?

Cancellations made more than seven days before the first session are eligible for a full refund minus a 10% administrative fee, or a 100% credit toward future programs. If a cancellation occurs with less than seven days’ notice before the program begins, a refund will be issued minus the 10% administrative fee and the cost of the first session, or a credit may be issued for the remaining balance. Once the first session has been attended, we are unable to issue refunds for the package; however, the remaining value of the lesson pack can be issued as a credit for use toward future VTS private or group sessions.

What are the FREE Summer Open Play Sessions?

Our Summer Open Play sessions are FREE community events designed to bring tennis players together and make the sport more accessible. The Vancouver Tennis Society reserves court time through the city, allowing both VTS members and the general public to join organized hitting sessions at no cost. These meetups are a great way to meet new hitting partners and enjoy the game in a social, welcoming environment. We are currently finalizing the schedule and locations for the upcoming season, and full details will be released to the community closer to the start of summer.
