Tennis Canada has published a report commissioned from YouGov Canada for 2023 regarding interested in participation in tennis across Canada.

Tennis has experienced growth in both interest and participation across the country for the first time since the pandemic. The growth is especially present amongst young Canadians.

Some statistics from the report:

  • Tennis is the 4th most popular sport in terms of interest in Canada behind hockey, soccer, and basketball.
  • Tennis is the 5th most popular sport in terms of participation in Canada behind soccer, basketball, golf, and hockey.
  • 10% more young Canadians (6-17 year olds) claimed to be interested in tennis in 2023, and 11% more young Canadians played tennis in 2023 versus 2022.
  • More than 20% of all young Canadians played tennis in the past year.
  • 25% of Canadians aged under-12 played tennis in the past year.
  • 88% of players from 2023 intend to play again in 2024.
  • 30% of Canadians aged 12+ say they will play tennis in the next year (highest since 2019).
  • 30% of parents of young Canadians say the will enrol their children in tennis programming next year (up from 23% in 2022).
  • 60% of new Canadians (lived in Canada less than 10 years) plan on trying tennis in the next year.
