Dear members and guests:

The Vancouver Tennis Society held a free introductory tennis event at Queen Elizabeth Park on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM for Newcomers to Canada.

We had a great turnout and ran programming on 4 tennis courts at Queen Elizabeth Park!

It was also super exciting that Darran Wrighton, who is the Provincial Community Outreach Programs Coordinator at Tennis BC, ran the instruction at the event using the brand new Tennis Canada “First Set” curriculum! This curriculum prioritizes emphasizing the fun of playing tennis and we got people playing some fun doubles within about an hour! Three other instructors: Asal, Saeid, and Sam also helped out at the event and we thank them as well.

Thank you attendees, Tennis BC, the instructors, and Darran Wrighton for their amazing contributions. Thank you, most of all, to all attendees who came out to the event! It’s not always easy to try something new and we commend you for doing so. It was a fantastic group full of laughter and smiling 🙂

Thank you to the volunteers, instructors, ParticipACTION, the Governement of Canada, Tennis BC, Saptuo, and the City of Vancouver for their support, guidance, and assistance. Without everyone working together, this programming wouldn’t have been made possible.

PS. Stay tuned for more tennis programming and exciting VTS / Tennis BC collaborations in the future!
